Day 1: Amarillo

Yesterday we officially departed on the Yellowstone trip. Packing the car with all of our stuff was a challenge, but we managed to get it all in!

Packed almost to the ceiling and setting off from Dallas

We left about 10:30. We had packed sandwich stuff, so we stopped at a picnic area on the way for lunch. We each took turns driving, although I drove the longest shift…let’s hope that isn’t a pattern on this trip. We did hit up Sonic happy hour, although Jack missed out because he was fast asleep when we stopped.

We got to Amarillo around 5. We got to see Grandma and Grandpa’s newly remodeled bedrooms and bathrooms. It’s an amazing transformation. They moved plumbing and walls and closets all around – it almost doesn’t even seem like the same house to me!

We had a really yummy casserole for dinner thanks to Grandmother June. We found some board games in the guest quarters, and played a fun game of password. We tried to play Old Maid, but we didn’t check to make sure all of the cards were there first. It was hard to get the game to end since about 5 of the cards had no matches. We also watched part of the Ranger game, but they lost :(.

This morning Tommy and I got up and went to the gym here. When we got back around 11:15, Jack was still asleep. So we woke him up of course! We had a leisurely morning of chatting and eating as we each felt like it.

We also played a game of Bocce, since the backyard here is a perfect Bocce area.

Can you tell from Tommy's form here that he was our Bocce champion?

Tonight we are headed to see “Texas”, which is a musical performed in an amphitheater in the Palo Duro Canyon. We used to go see it every year when I was a kid, and I LOVED it. I am super excited for tonight. It’s cheesy, but awesome.
